Troy's 30-gallon Reef

Troy maintains this 30-gallon reef system in his room.

This is Troy's Bicolor Dottyback. This is the only fish he keeps in his tank. His carpet anemone, gorgonian, and branching Blastomussa (?) are also in this photo. We are having a difficult time getting a positive ID on the "Blastomussa". We'll post a better photo of it soon. Instead of the Bi-color Dottyback, he now keeps a tank-raised Neon Dottyback.

Steve gave Troy this green meat coral in August 1998. It has grown considerably! The Grape coral (Frogspawn) above is one of Troy's favorites and has recently sprouted several new branches. He's had it since January 1999.

Zoanthids are in the background and have multiplied considerably since August 1998. The yellow polyps have also reproduced slowly. The small whitish-colored sarcophyton in the far back left used to be huge. Troy cut it gradually into pie shapes, then cut each shape and attached them with gel super-glue to small rocks. Now the source leather is growing a new top. His lobophytum is in the foreground. He hasn't propagated it yet. The dark spot on the front of it is a sting from his carpet anemone. He's since moved it away from the carpet anemone.

The middle section of his tank: green meat coral, grape, red ball sponge, gorgonian, fluted galaxy, and his carpet anemone.

He hasn't added much to this tank in several months. The carpet anemone moved around quite a bit until it found a spot close to the lights that it liked. It's been with us since August 1998 and hasn't moved from this spot since October '98. A very interesting anemone crab lives on the carpet anemone, and a peppermint shrimp lives under it, usually hanging on the stalk or the underside of the top.

Welcome to our reef hobby!
